Mechatronics Research Unit

The Mechatronics Research Unit is one of the oldest research institutes at the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule (OTH) Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany. Research includes many areas of robotics and automation, smart materials and systems together with numerous aspects of metrology.

Welcome to Mechatronics Research Unit

Mechatronics.org™ and Mechatronik.org™ are the web domains (in English and German respectively) of the Mechatronics Research Unit (MRU) of the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg (University of Applied Sciences), Germany.

The MRU was founded along with the Mechatronics Bachelor degree course at the aforementioned University toward the end of the last century. It is one of the largest research institutes in Regensburg and operates in conjunction with a number of other laboratories of the same university.

Mechatronics

Mechatronics is an engineering science which comprises a coherent fusion of electrical, mechanical and software engineering. Few commercially available devices are purely electrical or exclusively mechanical and a degree of programming belongs to almost all modern products. The climate change has given an enourmous impetus to mechatronic developments (electromobility, wind and water generation etc.) and this is reflected in the demand for our graduates.

Programming is an integral part of mechatronics. Not only indispensable programming languages like C/C++ but many others are often used today such as Python, MatLab (Octave) etc. Robotic programming (online or offline) is normally carried out at a higher level of abstraction using VAl2/V+, KAREL, ROS etc. sometimes via PLC interfaces.
