In addition to robotic projects in the biomedical field, new technologies have been employed in the measurement and analysis fields. Areas include low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) for the stimulation of condrocyte growth in tissue engineering.
Collaboration with the Dental Clinic and the Physics faculty of the University Regensburg is continuing with DFG funding for investigations into dental necrosis. The detection of blood flow (not just the existence of blood) is essential in recognising whether a tooth is alive or not. This is not a trivial problem but there are several potential solutions ranging from Doppler ultrasound to laser plethysmography.
More recently, much interest has been generated in collaboration with the University Hospital Regensburg through the RCBE.
